Spring 1954: Thelonious Monk spent ten days in Paris, France. From the first press clippings the country devoted to the pianist to the various stops during his Parisian stay (including a concert given at the 3rd Salon du Jazz, held from May 30 to June 7, at the Salle Pleyel), articles and photos document the comet’s passage: both on stage and on the Seine, Thelonious Monk took everyone by surprise.

Pianist himself, Jacques Ponzio discovered Thelonious Monk in the late 1960s. In 1995, he co-authored Blue Monk, Portrait de Thelonious, published by Actes Sud. More recently, he delved into his extensive archives to compose the astonishing (and bilingual) Monk ABC.
